High-Fidelity Simulation Training Lab
Vanguard’s state-of-the-art high-fidelity simulation lab challenges our crews with realistic simulated medical emergency scenarios. The high-fidelity simulation lab and in-house medical training program allow our team to be at the top of their game when real emergencies happen in the air or on the ground.
Preparing for Anything and Everything
Run by distinguished trainers with decades of emergency medical care experience, the high-fidelity simulation lab features an advanced patient simulator named Hal®. The life-like mannequin boasts an array of real-patient monitors and sensors to provide instant feedback. The result is better-prepared crews ready to perform challenging medical aviation missions anywhere in Manitoba.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is high fidelity simulation?
In the world of simulation, fidelity is a term used to describe the degree of realism created using a combination of equipment, setting, and scenario. A high-fidelity lab produces an extremely realistic reproduction of settings, events, systems and injuries. Vanguard’s High-Fidelity Simulation Lab simulates real-world events and scenarios that our specialized air ambulance professional may encounter on any given mission. The new simulation lab is aided by the use of an advanced patient simulator mannikin that produces instant bio-medical feedback and replicates a wide variety of distress situations with lifelike realism.
What types of scenarios can the vanguard simulation lab replicate?
The lab is designed to resemble a typical northern Manitoba nursing station, where Vanguard’s medical team routinely work to stabilize patients in preparation air ambulance services, air transport and patient transfer to hospital. On any given flight, medical emergencies can occur suddenly, and our team is highly trained to perform critical patient care at any time. Whether in the lab, on the ground or in the air, Hal can be programmed to prepare Vanguard’s medical crews for a wide variety of common and unusual distress situations including:
• Acute Anterolateral Myocardial Infarction
• Supraventricular Tachycardia
• Sepsis
• Atrial Fibrillation
• COPD Exacerbation
• Diabetic Ketoacidosis
• Opioid Overdose
• Pulmonary Embolism; and many more.
How does Vanguard's high-fidelity simulation lab improve patient outcomes?
By undergoing Vanguard’s rigorous training curriculum including advanced patient simulation in a wide variety of complex scenarios, our distinguished air ambulance team is prepared for any medical transport mission. Crew members are able to learn from intense, virtual emergencies so that they are ready to excel when the scenario happens in real life. Vanguard’s air ambulance and medical transport services perform at the highest level around the clock, responding to emergencies, low-acuity medical care, and other medical transportation needs throughout Manitoba.
